WORK PERMIT EXEMPTIONS

As a general rule, foreigners must request a residence permit to legalize their employment situation in our country.  However, there are certain activities that are exceptions to that rule.

What labor activities are we referring to?

  • Technicians and foreign scientists who are either invited or hired to work for the State, for autonomous communities or for local governments whose objective is research development.
  • Foreign professors invited or hired to work at Spanish universities.
  • Civil servants or military personnel from foreign State Administrations coming to Spain to carry out activities under a cooperation agreement with the Spanish administration.
  • Foreign social media correspondents, duly accredited, coming to Spain as reporters.
  • Members of the International Scientific Missions, authorized by the Spanish State, coming to carry out research work in Spain.
  • Artists coming to Spain for seasonal performances and not for ongoing work.
  • Ministers, clergy or church representatives registered in the religious organizations registry, who are coming to Spain solely to carry out a religious activity.
  • Representative, governing, and admininistrative bodies of internationally standardized unions whose duties are strictly limited to union activities.
  • Foreign minors of working age in custody of competent child protection authorities.
